1. Vision

To build a scalable and sustainable developer community across Ghana and Africa, enabling developers to learn, build, and collaborate using Expo and React Native, while staying connected to the global Expo ecosystem.

2. Community Structure

2.1 Country Lead

Each country operates under a designated Country Lead responsible for:

  • Overall community coordination
  • Alignment with the Expo team
  • Partnerships and ecosystem engagement
  • Supporting local organizers and ambassadors

2.2 City & Campus Ambassadors

Communities are supported by City and Campus Ambassadors who:

  • Organize local meetups and developer activities
  • Promote Expo within their cities and universities
  • Support onboarding and growth of new community members

3. Event Structure

  • Quarterly Events: Community meetups featuring talks, demos, and networking sessions, with support from the Expo team and ecosystem partners
  • Annual Flagship Event: A large-scale event (e.g. Expo Ghana / Expo Africa) bringing together developers, partners, and the broader tech ecosystem

4. Support from Expo

To enable consistent growth, the following support is valuable:

  • Speakers: Virtual sessions from Expo engineers
  • Funding: Support for event operations
  • Swag: Stickers, apparel, and developer merchandise
  • Visibility: Promotion across Expo channels

5. Growth Strategy

  • Phase 1 – Ghana: Strengthen the core community and expand ambassador presence
  • Phase 2 – Expansion: Identify and support community leads in other African countries
  • Phase 3 – Africa Network: Build a connected Expo developer network across Africa
